About Fenix

Fenix – Humanitarian Legal Aid is a US non-profit organization and Greek MKO, federally registered with Greece’s Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

Our multidisciplinary team of lawyers, protection officers, legal assistants, translators, psychologists and experts from different academic backgrounds, provides legal aid, protection and psychosocial services to refugees and asylum seekers on Lesvos, while advocating for a more just and equitable asylum system.

About the role

We are looking for a Greek lawyer to grow our legal team on Lesvos, where we provide legal aid at all stages of the asylum procedure. In this role, your responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Providing legal representation before the Greek Asylum Service, European Asylum Support Office, Appeals Committee and Administrative and Judicial Courts
  • Providing support in strategic litigation cases
  • Developing and guide case strategies together with the holistic team
  • Communicating with relevant institutions and authorities
  • Participating in Working Groups and support advocacy efforts and information-sharing with actors through meetings and referrals
  • Staying up to date on rapidly changing asylum laws and policies
  • Maintaining case notes and records in compliance with reporting and case management requirements

What we are looking for

  • Greek licensed lawyer
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with immigration and refugee law. Experience with detention and border procedures is a great asset
  • Ability to work with clients of a range of backgrounds, with sensitivity to gender, culture, trauma history, age and diverse vulnerabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication skills and a proactive positive attitude
  • Strong case management, legal research, and legal writing skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a group setting and meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment and/or emergency setting
  • Oral and written English fluency
  • Passion for human rights and social justice
