About Fenix

Fenix – Humanitarian Legal Aid is a US non-profit organization and Greek MKO, federally registered with Greece’s Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

Our multidisciplinary team of lawyers, protection officers, legal assistants, translators, psychologists and experts from different academic backgrounds, provides legal aid, protection and psychosocial services to refugees and asylum seekers on Lesvos, while advocating for a more just and equitable asylum system.

About the role

Fenix’s Board of Trustees (USA) is committed to the provision of holistic legal aid to asylum seekers and refugees in Greece. We ensure that Fenix’s work is inline with our core values and mission, while also helping to grow and develop Fenix through our technical knowledge and networks.

Board members create directional guidance to help a nonprofit live up to its mission. They do this through:

  • Setting policies on issues such as safeguarding.
  • Developing strategy, from staffing plans to assessment.
  • Giving to their nonprofit organization.
  • Promoting their nonprofit in the community.
  • Reviewing Fenix’s operations in Greece, based on updates from the Directors, Head of Mission and Head of Operations, and ensuring that these activities are in accordance with Fenix’s values and goals.
