About Fenix

Fenix – Humanitarian Legal Aid is a US non-profit organization and Greek MKO, federally registered with Greece’s Ministry of Migration and Asylum.

Our multidisciplinary team of lawyers, protection officers, legal assistants, translators, psychologists and experts from different academic backgrounds, provides legal aid, protection and psychosocial services to refugees and asylum seekers on Lesvos, while advocating for a more just and equitable asylum system.

About the role

As a part of our Cultural Mediation Team you will work with the Protection, Legal, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support team in communicating with their client, assuring cultural sensitivity and accuracy of translation. Your job will consist of simultaneous interpretation during legal, protection, and mental health sessions, translation of messages and official documentations and proofreading translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy.

  • Assist the Protection, Legal, and Mental Health and Psychosocial support team in communicating with their clients, assuring cultural sensitivity and that the translated content conveys original meaning and tone.
  • Translation of messages and official documentations.
  • Simultaneous interpretation during interview preparation and protection assessment
  • Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy.
  • Consults and follow up with internal team members to ensure translation meets their needs and to understand the concepts and translate them appropriately.

What we are looking for

  • Professional prophecies in written and spoken (Native or C1) Somali
  • Fluency in English language
