Help us create systematic change!

In our report on harmful asylum procedures for sexual orientation and gender identity claims, we compiled an extensive collection of recommendations. Now, we need you to spread the word!

Spreading awareness and expertise is crucial in creating good practices for the assessment of SOGIESC asylum applicants. That is why we have set up an email campaign, both in Greek and English. Join us, in spreading our recommendations with your local organisations, and EU authorities.

HOW DOES THE CAMPAIGN WORK?

To start, download the document below. The document contains three template letters: one to potentially interested organisations, one to EUAA and GAS, and one to EODY. You can fill in your own details in the email, and send it to the provided email addresses. It's as simple as that!

The email to potentially interested organisations targets organisations that you might now, for example organisations that are interested in LGBTQI+ matters, defend human rights, or participate in advocacy for asylum seekers. There is no geographical region that these organisations should fall under; anyone that could be interested in the report can be approached!

Lastly, the emails provided are a template, and you are of course free to add any personal remarks or write your own email instead!

WHO ARE EASO, GAS AND EODY? AND WHY SHOULD YOU EMAIL THEM?

GAS is the Greek Asylum Service. They are in charge of the asylum process in Greece. Therefore they conduct asylum interviews, supply caseworkers and issue asylum decisions.

EUAA is the European Union Agency for Asylum, they support the Greek Asylum Service with asylum interviews by supplying extra caseworkers, who conduct asylum interviews.

EODY is the National Public Health Organisation in Greece. EODY still uses certain International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) codes that reflect outdated and stigmatising practices to label SOGIESC applicants.

STEPS

1. Download the document below

2. Copy to your email account, fill in your personal details, and enter the recipients email address
