Securing Long Term Impact: Fenix’s Refocused Operations

Fenix has been at the forefront of providing essential support to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece and advocating for practice and policy changes for the past 5 years. During this time, we have reached 5000+ vulnerable clients with our holistic legal aid program, carried out 500+ advocacy and strategic efforts at the national and international level -including EU Commission, EU Parliament, Greek Government, and UN- and trained 1000+ humanitarian workers, authorities, and other stakeholders.

Following an in-depth impact assessment and guided by a commitment to secure our mission and impact in the long term, Fenix has made a strategic decision to refocus its operations.

This includes the following changes:

  • The Holistic Legal Aid Project will be centralized in Athens to deliver a comprehensive programme concentrating efforts in navigating the complexity of the Greek legal system. We will continue to provide critical legal representation, comprehensive case management, and access to essential mental health support to refugees and asylum seekers with a trauma-informed approach.
  • The Advocacy & Strategy Project will be streamlined with operations in Athens and a support office in Lesvos. The project will continue amplifying the situation on the ground and call for policy changes to a multi varied set of actors. By maintaining a presence in both locations, we aim to amplify our advocacy efforts and drive positive change on multiple fronts.
  • The Capacity Bridging & Community Engagement Project will continue and enhance its operations in Lesvos by providing empowering legal information sessions, facilitating support and focus groups, and enhancing capacity through specialized training sessions. We are committed to fostering a stronger community on the island and empowering asylum seekers with access to relevant information and tools to navigate a complex and ever-changing process.

This process has allowed Fenix to learn, reflect and bring forward the experience of a committed team for 5 years. We remain committed to our mission of creating meaningful and sustainable change through holistic, empowering, and dignified support and look forward to sharing with you our next 5-year Strategic Plan.
