Fenix’s vision is that every person who has been forced to flee has real and dignified access to the right to asylum. Our mission consists of three interconnected Programs, aimed at positively impacting the cases of people who seek safety, other actors providing support to asylum seekers, and the Greek and European asylum systems at large. All our work is underpinned by our holistic philosophy, providing tools for empowerment with an integrated, trauma-informed and person-centred approach that considers the general well-being, needs, skills and hopes of individuals in their search for safety.

About the role

Inspired by our clients and infuriated by the rights violations we witness on a daily basis, we have so many stories to tell and voices to amplify. That is why we are looking for a creative and proactive Communications Officer to join our team. This role will focus on producing compelling visual content, managing and growing Fenix’s social media presence, and supporting fundraising efforts through storytelling and donor engagement.

Under the supervision of and in close collaboration with our Country Director, the Communications Officer will be working on: 

Content Creation

  • Create and edit video and photo content that tells the stories of the people we work for, rights violations happening in the context of seeking asylum, and the impact of our services
  • Develop creative visual assets for campaigns, reports, and fundraising appeals
  • Ensure that the voices of people who seek asylum are represented in our communications
  • Maintain an organized media archive and ensure ethical storytelling practices
  • Engage relevant team members in content creation

Social Media Management

  • Plan, create, and publish engaging posts for our social media platforms, including news updates, informative content, awareness raising and posts that Fenix’s impact
  • Monitor analytics and engagement, and adapt strategies to improve reach and impact
  • Stay up-to-date on trends in nonprofit social media and adapt content accordingly

Fundraising Support

  • Collaborate with the Country Director to create resonant content for grants, donor campaigns, newsletters, and crowdfunding efforts
  • Assist in developing materials for grant applications and impact reports.
  • Contribute creative input for fundraising campaigns, both online and offline.

Fenix prides itself for always adapting to the changing context and needs, and tasks may change during the time of the agreement.

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience in content creation (photography, videography, editing).
  • Proficiency in using Canva and other relevant software.
  • Fluency in English, with strong writing and storytelling skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, with the ability to adapt content to different audiences.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit communications and ethical storytelling practices.
  • Passionate about advocating for the rights of people on the move.
  • A positive, independent, and adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse, cross-cultural settings.
  • The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • A team player who is willing to take on additional responsibilities that come with working in a grassroots organization.
  • A strong commitment to our core values: empowerment, professionalism, and a holistic, trauma-informed approach to legal aid. 
  • The ability to fully self-sponsor their stay. Due to the complex nature of the role and context, a minimum commitment of three months is required, with six months being ideal.
  • The right to reside and work in the EU - unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor visa applications.

This would make you an even more ideal candidate

  • Experience working with people on the move, either in a legal or non-legal capacity.
  • Proficiency in an additional relevant language (such as French, Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Somali, or Greek) is highly desirable.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive.
  • Experience in fundraising though grants, philanthropic giving or crowdfunding
  • Experience working with cultural mediators
  • Experience in hosting focus groups, holding interviews
