Fenix’s vision is that every person who has been forced to flee has real and dignified access to the right to asylum. Our mission consists of interconnected projects, aimed at positively impacting the cases of people who seek safety, other actors providing support to asylum seekers, and the Greek and European asylum systems at large. All our work is underpinned by our holistic philosophy, providing tools for empowerment with an integrated, trauma-informed and person-centred approach that considers the general well-being, needs, skills and hopes of individuals in their search for safety.

About the role

Inspired by our clients and enraged by the rights violations we witness on a daily basis, we have so many stories to tell and voices to amplify. That is why we are looking for a creative and proactive Communications Officer to join our team. This role will focus on producing compelling visual content, growing Fenix’s social media presence, and supporting storytelling and donor engagement. The role can be done remotely or in person, and will be part-time.

Under the supervision of and in close collaboration with our Country Director, the Communications Officer will be working on: 

  • Design communication materials that help us to impactfully advocate for the rights of people who seek safety, and raise awareness of the reality they face
  • Develop creative visual assets for campaigns, reports, and fundraising appeals
  • Be in regular contact with Fenix team members for stories and updates from the ground
  • Help manage our social media calender to balance awareness raising, informative content, story telling and sharing impact
  • Maintain an organized media archive and ensure ethical storytelling practices
  • Monitor analytics and engagement, and adapt strategies to improve reach and impact
  • Stay up-to-date on trends in nonprofit social media and adapt content accordingly

Fenix prides itself for always adapting to the changing context and needs, and tasks may change during the time of the agreement.

  • A creative person who is eager to tell stories about what is happenig at the EU external borders.
  • Experience in creating diverse communication materials.
  • Understanding of social media engagement.
  • Proficiency in using Canva, Mailchimp and other relevant software.
  • Fluency in English, with strong writing and storytelling skills.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit communications and ethical storytelling practices.
  • Passionate about advocating for the rights of people on the move.
  • A reliable person who is good with managing deadlines.
  • A strong commitment to our core values: empowerment, professionalism, and a holistic, trauma-informed approach to legal aid. 

This would make you an even more ideal candidate

  • Experience working with people on the move, either in a legal or non-legal capacity.
  • Understanding of asylum systems in Greece / Europe.
  • Experience in writing articles, reports or long-reads.
  • Proficiency in an additional relevant language (such as French, Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Somali, or Greek) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in fundraising though grants, philanthropic giving or crowdfunding
